What we really thought about the Australian Grand Prix!

2023 Australian GP wrap-up.

We spent quite a bit of money making sure that we had really good trackside tickets for the Australian Grand Prix.

Up in the Fangio Stand we sat from Thursday through the rain and the sunshine, right through the weekend.

If you asked us to rate the weekend as a whole from one to ten, I’m not sure we’d be able to. The highs and the lows meant that it was up and down, round and round more times than a rollercoaster. We’ll list the pros and the cons down below.

Overall, did we enjoy it? Yes. Absolutely! It was very hard not to.

The F1 race was the shining star, but the end was bungled so badly that it left the spectators shaking their heads. We were there to watch a race, the value of entertainment is secondary to that, in my opinion. When making their decisions, the FIA should do what is needed, not what the crowd wants.

Chants of one more lap were irrelevant in the end.

Pros:

•The drivers were so generous with their time at the Melbourne Walk. Huge thanks to those who took the time to stop and chat, especially Carlos Sainz. His smile was lovely to see.

• The amount of on track action was honestly so amazing, the wait in between categories wasn’t very long at all. Really good call including F2 and F3!

• Transport was pleasant enough, for a free public service, we didn’t have any issues with Melbourne’s trams.

• The overall atmosphere was amazing!

• Compared to last year, we had such a better choice of food and beverage venues to choose from.

 Cons:

• The internet connectivity was absolutely shocking. Non-existent, to be honest.

• The amount of people running through the gates each morning was nothing short of scary and dangerous.

• Although there were a lot of accessible services for people with a disability or extra needs, there was no consistency with how these services were managed.

• Time certain races. I don’t know anybody who wouldn’t want to stay an extra fifteen minutes to see a race wrapped up properly.

Our overall rating for the weekend: 7/10
